BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Hydrology definition

Definition: Hydrology is the study and understanding of water in the environment. For example, the water cycle - rainfall, the movement of surface water as it flows towards the sea; evaporation, condensation (cloud formation) and precipitation. Hydrology is the study of these kinds of processes. Another example of Hydrology is the study of rising sea levels as a result of global warming or investigations into water quality and/or whether water contains metals.
