BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Light traps definition

Definition: A Light Trap is a way of identifying and/or counting flying insect species at night. A slightly sticky sheet can be used and placed next to the light source - at night these insects (especially moths) are drawn to the light and become attached to the sheet which can then be further examined.
