BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Long lining definition

Definition: Long-lining is a type of fishing technique where a commercial fishing boat will have long fishing lines trailing behind them. These long fishing lines have lots of secondary vertical lines hanging from them along the main line. These vertical lines have hooks with bait attached, which fish feed on and then are caught on the hooks. At the end of the day, the long lines are hauled in and the fish taken on board.
