BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Nuclear fusion definition

Definition: Nuclear fusion happens when two small, light atoms collide and form a larger, heavier atom. When they collide and fuse, the process releases a lot of energy, more than during nuclear fission. An example is during nuclear fusion within the Sun, two hydrogen atoms collide and fuse to form a helium atom.
