BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Pelagic (fishing) definition


Definition: Pelagic (fishing) is a group of fish that you find living just under the surface of the sea - typically Tuna, Herring. This term is linked with fishing. A specific type of net is used to catch these fish that gathers them up just below the surface of the water. Pelagic and Demersal are two types of fishing and they refer to the depth at which the fish are found.
