BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Pollutant definition

Definition: Pollutants are substances that harm the environment. It could be caused naturally, like from a volcano, smoke and other emissions. Pollutants, however, are usually referred to in relation to human activity, producing harmful emissions like from chimneys or car exhausts, or other sources, that harm the environment.
