BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Producer definition

Definition: The term 'Producer' is linked to the food chain. The producer is always the first in this chain and they are the plants that capture light to produce their own food - we eat producers to give us energy. Plants need carbon dioxide (CO2), water and light to make sugars - that is why they are called producers. Producers are always green plants.
