BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Prokaryotic cell definition

Definition: Prokaryotic cells are mostly found in bacteria, they do not have a nucleus and that is the definition of a prokaryotic cell. In eukaryotic cells the nucleus is there to protect the DNA, within a membrane. In prokaryotic cells, however, the DNA is free to move within the cell without limitation.
