BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Pyrethroids definition

Definition: Pyrethroids are synthetic insecticide pesticides based on the natural chemicals originally extracted from chrysanthemum flowers (pyrethrins). Farmers commonly use them to protect crops from insects. They have safer than other insecticides because they do not stay on the crop – the chemical can be washed away and have low mammalian toxicity.
