BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Ramsar site definition

Definition: Ramsar sites are wetland sites all over the world that are protected by agreement. The organisms that live in those sites like birds, animals are protected within that area. The UK signed up to the Convention in 1971 to protect wetland sites around the country. The environment in those sites like fish, the water, birds and so on, is protected in order to increase their numbers. Scotland has 51 sites, besides the other sites around the globe.
