BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Reflex action definition

Definition: A reflex action is carried out when the sensory neurone is activated and sends an impulse up to the relay neurone, which relays it to the motor neurone, activating the muscle and reacting to the stimuli as a result. For example, if you touch hot water, your hand moves away quickly automatically to prevent further injury.
