BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Thyroxine definition

Definition: Thyroxine is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland, which is situated in the neck. It’s an important hormone in the body because it controls the metabolism – it regulates how our body uses energy. The pituitary gland sends a hormone to the thyroid to stimulate it to make thyroxine which is then released to regulate the metabolism.
