BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Vena cava definition

Definition: The vena cava is one of the two veins through which deoxygenated blood re-enters the heart, having previously distributed oxygen to cells throughout the body for respiration. Blood re-enters the heart via the vena cava and is then pumped back round to the lungs, where it picks up more oxygen molecules.
