BSL Environmental Science Glossary - X-Chromosome definition

Definition: X and Y Chromosomes are found inside human DNA. The eggs inside a woman's ovaries only contain an X-Chromosome, the male sperm can contain either X or Y-Chromosome. When fertilisation occurs, if the sperm carries the X-chromosome, then the child will be female; if it carries a Y-chromosome, the child will be a boy.
