BSL Geography Glossary - Reservoir - definition

Definition: What is a reservoir? Reservoirs are big areas of water stored behind a man-made and include a wall or dam. Reservoirs hold water which is used by people for drinking, washing up and showering. Water stored in a reservoir is released through pipes. Some reservoirs are completely man-made. Others are created in already existing valleys, where a wall is built at one end, and the water comes from the rivers flowing into the valley.
