BSL Marine Species Glossary - Gobies - definition

Translation:

Hello! I'm here in beautiful Falmouth, Cornwall. Gobies are one of the largest families of fish with over 2000 different species. Gobies live all over the world, in both warm and temperate water as well as fresh water. They normally live at the bottom of the sea, hiding under rocks. Gobies eat small creatures like Zooplankton as well as worms. They are an important food source for larger fish, for example, Cod and Haddock. Gobies are normally about 10cm in length, but some larger species can be up to 30cm long. They have pelvic fins, but these are fused and form a disc shaped sucker, which enables them to attach themselves to rocks or corals.
