BSL Marine Species Glossary - Oyster - definition

Translation:

These are Oysters and this is the sign - Oyster. They don't all look like these but come in a range of shapes and sizes. Oysters live piled one on top of the other. It's possible to work out their age by looking at the lines on their shells. Oysters filter sea water and help clean the marine environment. They also support biodiversity - when they die, their shells become homes for other sea creatures. People eat oysters and what's interesting is that they don't all taste the same, but varies according to where they live and their diet, this can make oysters from different places taste very different. Oysters are a good source of vitamins and minerals.
