BSL Marine Species Glossary - Sheath - definition

Translation:

Seagrass has a protective tube through which the new plant grows from the Rhizome which is called a 'Sheath'. This tube can be circular, or triangular depending on the species. As the new plant develops the sheath protects it and anchors it to the seabed. The Sheath is part of the leaf.
