BSL Marine Species Glossary - Short Snouted Seahorse - definition

Translation:

Hi! I'm here in Falmouth. Short Snouted Seahorse. These seahorses have a long thin body and a head that looks similar to that of a horse. They are yellow/brown in colour with darker patches, which helps them hide and merge into their environment. Short Snout Seahorses are rare in the UK, they live in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean. They eat tiny organisms like Zooplankton and small worms. Seahorses use their tails to grab on to things like seagrass and coral which makes it easier for them to feed. They use their long mouth to suck in food. These creatures are critically endangered because of overfishing and pollution, so we must try and protect them. Another thing about Short Snouted Seahorses is that the males carry the babies in a pouch in their bellies and then give birth to lots of tiny seahorses!
