BSL Marine Glossary - Swordfish - definition

Translation:

Swordfish are found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans and are rarely seen in UK waters. They live at depths of up to 450 metres and are migratory, moving towards warmer waters in winter and cooler waters in summer. Their distinctive, pointed bill, which measures one third the length of their body, gives them their name. Swordfish have a crescent-shaped dorsal fin and a forked tail, making them fast and highly manoeuvrable - they can reach speeds of up to 97kmph!

They use their pointed bill to stun and slash at their prey.
