How will you use what you have learned in this course?

To assist a child in class.
I will teach braille users in primary school.
To work with a child in school.
To support learners in their reading and writing of braille in school.
It will help me in the transcription and proofreading of braille texts.
I work in Special Education with several children with visual impairments. I would like to specialise as a VI (peripatetic) teacher.
To help produce resources for a VI child I work 1:1 with.
To support pupils with reading/writing as necessary.
Book transcription, job, etc.
To help pupils improve their braille skills (our VI pupils).
Start working with a pupil who is starting braille.

What was best about the course?

Learning this new skill to help a child in class.
Writing transcripts to check braille exercises.
Challenging my brain!
Enjoyed the gradual build-up of it. Felt you were moving on with each stage.
I feel I now have a thorough grounding in braille. From no knowledge, I can now read and type braille.
Really enjoyed the written exercises and transcriptions.
The pace of the stages was good, never too rushed.
Variety of texts and approaches that gradually built up knowledge.
The regular assessment dates helped with planning and coordinating self-study.
Working through the stages to improve knowledge with the practice exercises.

What, if anything, could have been improved?

More examples.
The wording of explanations was, at times, hard to decipher.
Some explanations not easy to follow, not enough examples, and exercises are not always transcribed in appendices for reference
Not enough braille transcriptions were supplied. There were a significant number of errors in the course material.
It was great – lots more transcriptions by the end.
A full compliment of brailled transcriptions in Appendix 2 would be VERY helpful.
Numerous exercises had no brailled transcriptions to check when learning, it would always be useful to be able to check in order to identify errors.
I would've like that all exercises/answers would have been included, in addition to further exercises at stages 9-11.
More raised braille/transcripts to check work is correct in practices.

This course was delivered through distance learning - did you find this a good arrangement or would you have preferred a different mode of delivery? Please comment either way.

No. I would have preferred some face to face for Q&As.
It was fine as distance learning. No problems. Tutor always helpful.
Sometimes felt it would have been nice to be in a classroom setting to get some instant feedback but understand that can’t be the case.
It worked ok but it would have been nice to meet up with tutor maybe once or twice during the course.
Really liked distance learning as I can work at my own pace.
