Webinar: Edinburgh Museums and Galleries ASN work with young people and families

Join the Engagement Team from Edinburgh Museums and Galleries (City of Edinburgh Council) to hear about work over the museums and galleries service addressing inclusion for young people and families with ASN. This work focuses on making our venues more welcoming for young people and families with sensory needs.

Margaret Findlay, Learning and Public Programmes Manager, will talk about the introduction of sensory backpacks in our museums and Galleries to support school and family visits and the development plans for sensory rooms in venues using the successful model of our first sensory room at Museum of Edinburgh as an example. Margaret will also talk about how BSL tours and Visually Impaired tours have become part of the permanent service offering.

Niamh Lynch, Steward of Lauriston Castle, will talk about her plans and vision to create a multi-sensory model to improve access to the collections in a historical country house. This plan includes adding sound and scent into historical rooms with open collections.

Ria Sloan, Outreach and Access Manager will talk about our school Loan Box Service and her development work on the loan boxes to include more sensory items and engagement.

Susie Cavill, Outreach and Access Manager will talk about her work in developing a historic courtyard space in one of our museums into a sensory space in collaboration with Mindroom. Mindroom is a charity that champions all forms of neurodiversity and supports all kinds of minds. They provide support to parents and carers of neurodivergent children and young people up to the age of 25, regardless of diagnosis, or no diagnosis.
