What was best about the session?

The content and presented expertise and experience.
Confirming that current approaches used in my setting are appropriate and child centered.
New info about autism - thank you.
Learning about language development (this is fairly new to me and already I can see how useful it will be when looking at my class!)
Language development stages examples and case studies.
Having the opportunity to reflect on the examples and expertise sharing in relation to my own professional practice.
Steps when learning to communicate.
The sharing of lived experiences with the real-life cases.
Centring engagement around the child and their dignity & challenging possible perceptions of what is right to do.
A reminder that what I am doing in my class is in line with Sheila's presentation and being responsive to communication is the key. I found the case studies useful also.
Presenter very clear and provided lots of useful information. I learned things I hadn't considered before or was unsure about so it was great to get things clarified.
As a Speech and Language Therapist a lot of it was familiar - the best thing for me was how different skills can be impacted by e.g. autism or intellectual disability (slides highlighted in red or purple) but all content really valuable for wider audience.
Lots of practical information. Useful to implement now.
Confirming my intuition that we should be responding to all communication rather than putting children off by saying ask again with AAC!
Sheila was very calm and intuitive with a wealth of experience to share. It was excellent.
Presenter was lovely, very clear.
The case studies at the end, sharing real world experiences and the pathway for developing communication strategies.
The detailed information about language development.
The case studies really helped with understanding, as I found it a little confusing at times and without them I would have struggled. scenarios and examples in practice.
The case studies were very useful as examples of good practice.
Really helpful information shared. I could see how I would put this into my own practice.
Information from birth onward .
Communication - motivation to communicate - what this can look like for a child with a dual diagnosis.
The webinar actually addressed the issues I have with my deaf and autistic learners and suggested reasons why this might be and how to overcome them. It's made me think differently about how I approach their communication and respond to them. Very informative.
Visuals and also examples ie - cases.

What, if anything, do you think should have been included?

Nothing. It provided a good overview.
Needed longer!
N/A- I loved the inclusion of the case studies. Really useful.
More top tips!
As I work in post-16 Education, it would be interesting to have a similar Webinar with focus on communication strategies for older students.
Just more. It felt like we could have done another 30 mins at least.
It was very knowledge and evidence based, thank you.
Longer session to unpick the case studies
I have nothing to add. It was great. Very clear and to the point.
Saying that the 'pre-intentional', 'anticipatory' etc. stages were from Elklan.
It was interesting and full. Thank you. Case studies were good. Happy for a further hour of them!
Shame we didn't have more time.
More practical toolkit and delivery ideas.
More of an intro around red flags.
Longer time for Q and A
I like the bitesize webinars. I feel like this topic lends itself to be extended over several sessions to be able to give more practical examples/ case studies and time for questions.
I can't think of anything. (5)
Tracking progress & video clips showing communication partners.
I felt it was all relevant so there was nothing to add and I found the case studies at the end very helpful.
Maybe a little more interactive where we answer/share ideas.

What other CPD training would you like the SSC to provide?

More specific inputs about the impact of Hearing loss.
Pathological demand avoidance and autism.
More info and training - thank you.
I signed up for lots from the bulletin and am really looking forward to them all - they will be very useful.
Developing Theory of Mind in relation to post-16 education and BSL.
Keep up your range of training opportunities please.
Autism + .... introducing aids and technology.
Autism + .... empowering parents and siblings.
I have seen a few more excellent training opportunities already advertised.
Not sure yet as this was my first SSC webinar. I am joining one next week as well.
Everything! (not helpful, I know) Any ideas on play and development for autistic young people, including those with a pda profile.
More of the same with a focus on deafness and autism.
I'm still working through the many things that are already on offer!
Any courses on hearing loss/language development with other diagnoses - autism/adhd/additional needs.
All training has been really helpful and informative and relevant to role. APD and ANSD training and how to support students with diagnosis.
Supporting sensory differences in early years.
Other training similar to this would be great. Thanks.
Different ways to track progress and gaining the child's voice.
More catch ups on training - for people who cannot make it live, due to working patterns.
Nothing! This is what I have been searching for and was very relevant. Thank you.
