Accessible documents are good for all learners, not just those with a visual impairment. If every teacher made their documents accessible transcribers would be able to create text-based documents for large print and braille users much more efficiently.
This full day course will give you hands-on, practical experience of creating accessible Word and PowerPoint documents, including how to use headings and how to insert a table to make it accessible for a screen reader user.
The afternoon session will cover how to create accessible Maths materials that will allow documents to be embossed correctly in braille. The final session will show you how to create Word documents in a Modern Foreign Language (MFL) and English, thereby allowing the document to be embossed in the correct braille code for both English and the MFL.
Please note this is a practical course. All participants must bring their own laptop running Windows. It must be able to connect to the University's guest Wifi and have a copy of Microsoft Office installed on the device.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Restrictions: Maximum of 10 participants.
Those new to transcription and anyone who creates documents for learners who need large print or braille.
