Literacy Workshop 2: Developing English in a Sign/Bilingual School
Presented on Wednesday 28 February 2007
Content
English is not just literacy; it involves functional communication skills and where appropriate, spoken English. This day revolved around the work of Louise Corfe, former Deputy Headteacher at Frank Barnes School and Mark Varley, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in Deafness. They explained how they have worked together to develop pupils’ Live English Skills and to raise pupils’ achievements in literacy.
The second part of this presentation looked at teaching written English to sign bilingual pupils. Louise presented the teaching strategies included in her recently published, Teaching Toolkit and Resource Pack.
