Introduction to STASS: assessment of language skills
19 March 2008
Content
The day was an introduction to the South Tyneside Assessment of Syntactic Structures (STASS). This assessment is quick and, after this training, easy to use. The course covered knowledge of English structures at clause, phrase and word levels; using interactive activities to become familiar with English language structures and how to score this test accurately. Video examples showed how to use the assessment with deaf children who use speech. The implications of the test outcomes were discussed so that participants could contribute to pupil review meetings and explain the results to parents and other professionals. The SSC has two copies of STASS in the Resource Centre.
