Questionnaire Results 2007-08
Participants were asked, given the benefit of several months to allow the training to sink in, if:

Course 19: Introduction to STASS: Assessment of Language Skills: Wednesday 19th March, 2008 (16 Attendees)
The cost of courses sometimes means only one person can attend.
2. Course 21: Boosting Maths Skills in Deaf Children: Thursday 24th April, 2008 (20 Attendees)
- I have a particular interest in maths for deaf children therefore the course went over quite a lot of what I already know. However, more courses on this topic would be warmly welcomed by myself.
- I have been very disappointed that the promised materials from the course have not been forthcoming.
- I still have not received the material despite asking while attending another course in June.
- This course was almost a year ago and to be honest I can't remember enough to comment!
- I would have liked a copy of the resources - even a digital copy to allow me to print and create my own. Very worthwhile course, thank you.
- Not relevant for direct teaching of maths. Very much research based!
3. SSC Course 22: Down's Syndrome: vision, visual problems and visual assessment: Thursday, 15th May, 2008 (45 Attendees)
- This was an excellent course - has informed my practice, 'opened my eyes' and I enjoyed it immensely too! Some difficult concepts well explained and demonstrated.
- Maggie Woodhouse days are always superb.
- As an Orthoptist I do not see Down's Syndrome children on a daily basis but do use the information gained from this course on an ad hoc basis.
- Following this course, a colleague and I have begun visual assessment of Down's children in our special schools. We hope to run a workshop for parents.
- General comment: not specific to Down's Syndrome Course. Consider making course notes into a small useable working doc. There is a temptation to think giving more would be better or good value ... not so ... strip down notes to useable, almost bullet pointed statements supported with appendices if needed. Powerpoint slide print outs are not suitable.
- Very interesting and influential course. I held basic knowledge regarding the vision difficulties of this client group; now feel I have more to offer.
- I found the presentation style of this course excellent and memorable and have followed up with further research on the Cardiff uni website spoken and sent materials & ideas to CT and parent and presented bones of course to our own team so a truly useful and long lasting effect.
- It was too high a level for what I needed. I found it interesting, and it did add to my own knowledge, but I haven't needed to use any of it in my school.
- The course has allowed me to advise parents and staff of difficulties pupils with DS may have due to their visual impairments - I have discussed with many colleagues.
- This course was excellent and I would come to hear this speaker again on a related topic.
- I have not dealt with any children with Down's Syndrome since the course but found the information useful to have in case the situation changes.
- I have found the courses relevant to my work and practice. Lecturers and lectures were always very good and approachable. I would like to see more courses in visual impairment for people with disabilities. Could I be put on the mailing list?
4. SSC Course 25: The Early Years: Strategies and Resources for Working with Very Young Visually Impaired Children: Thursday 6th March, 2008 (27 Attendees)
- Just to remember that course is open to parents as well as professionals and to pitch programme accordingly.
- The course was extremely informative but as I am not supporting any children in this category at the moment I have not been able to able the information practically.
- Have used many of the practical skills and started making some of the resources - seeing them made and having a try on course made it real rather than theoretical and so used rather than planned.
- I attended this course shortly after starting working with children who have VI, so found the course very relevant and interesting. I have recommended the course to others in my team.
