BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Climate Drivers definition

Description: Climate Drivers influence the world's climate. They result in changes in rainfall, wind and storms along with global temperature over a number of years, or much longer time periods. There are two categories of climate drivers: natural climate drivers and those that are a consequence of our actions – non-natural climate drivers. Examples of natural climate drivers are volcanic eruptions, NAO, El Niño and ocean currents; non-natural climate drivers arise from human activity, for example burning fossil fuels and deforestation. Over time both types of drivers have an impact on the climate.
