Definition: Lime is a substance we use to make limecrete/mortar. It is made of calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide. To make lime, we heat the limestone to 850°C (Limestone is made of calcium carbonate), and it will decompose to produce calcium oxide (quicklime). Then add water (a reactive exothermic reaction) to make lime (slaked lime). It is a reactive exothermic reaction. Finally, it will crumble to make powder.
Here is the chemistry:
Calcium carbonate Calcium oxide + Carbon dioxide (heating)
Calcium oxide + water
Calcium hydroxide + Heat
