BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Natural Flood Defence definition

Description: Historically, a number of different ways have been used to prevent flooding. More recently the focus has been on finding more natural ways, using rivers and lakes, to do this. Thought is going into how we can reduce the flow and storage of water to control how much is being discharged and also ways any excess can be absorbed. Controlling water in these ways means that communities and towns can recover more quickly from flooding.
