Description: Traditionally parks have been flat, open spaces covered in mown grass which can be prone to flooding. These spaces are now starting to change and we're seeing more planting and use of pebbles. Following a period of prolonged, heavy rainfall these plants and pebbles absorb more of the water, which not only prevents flooding, but also drought, because the ground holds more of the moisture. All around the country, in city centres and towns, more and more parks are planted in this way. This photo is an example of a Sponge Park.
