Definition: A tidal power scheme where a section of a bay or estuary is impounded by a seawall which has sluice tunnels and turbines like a tidal barrage. The strong seawall goes out towards the sea and back to the coast like a loop. The flowing water flows through the sluice tunnels in the wall, causing the turbines and generators to turn to make electricity. The environmental impacts are higher than those of a tidal lagoon because it covers a larger part of the bay or estuary.
