Description: A Wetland is an area where water covers the soil or is present at or near the surface for much of the year with plants like reeds and tall grasses growing in it. Water levels in these wetlands can fluctuate from year to year, but the water is held in place. These spaces support an incredible array of wildlife and biodiversity, including creatures like otters, bats, numerous species of birds, frogs and other animals, and plants. These plants are adapted to live partially submerged and the muddy soil allows water to permeate through it. Wetlands help prevent flooding in surrounding towns by regulating water levels.
