Will you do anything differently as a result of today's training?

Yes I’ll look into more passports with all pupils
Keep using LIFE and CHILD. Will look into the PDF sent prior to webinar.
Yes - evaluate our resources and adapt to suit the needs of our caseloads.
Make use of an adapted LIFE Questionnaire for supporting pupils in these Covid times.
Yes I’ll look into more passports with all pupils
Yes, I plan to look at the LIFE questionnaire and see how it could be adapted. Also, I will look at developing curricular materials. Lots of ideas generated from today.
Adaptation of questionnaires to fit the student
Possibly implement parts of the evaluation/ recording document for assessing
Adapt a questionnaire like LIFE for the COVID classroom.
As I am new to the service, all information and support is helpful in learning the job
No, I will continue to learn about self-advocacy skills on my own. I had hoped that this seminar would help me with this.
Has given me much wider knowedge and understanding of how we can develop the use of the assessments we use to have a much more holistic approach.
Review current material/resources used for developing self advocacy skills with different age groups.
LIFE Questionnaire / HI pupils writing letters about their needs to teachers.
Share with colleagues.
Encourage the child to be involved in training schools.
I will adapt questionnaires I already use.
Yes - adapt materials more freely (LIFE questionnaire) to suits pupils's needs.
Yes, be more thoughtful about how I advocate on behalf of young people and engage their perspective more.
I will re-look at our own resources, look up some of the things mentioned and revamp in light of findings.
Yes building up our service materials and being consistent with supporting self-advocacy.

What was best about the course/event?

Always lovely to listen to Joe’s passion for this area
Joe's knowledge and experience
Useful information, how to tailor resources and how to meet needs of our pupils. Putting the child at the centre of everything we do and giving them a voice.
Clear to follow and good ideas shared.
Always lovely to listen to Joe’s passion for this area
Joe's voice is calming and engaging. He's great to listen to with so much knowledge and experience to share. I also love the chat function to see the comments of others and learn of what they are doing.
The discussion about questionnaires and the pre event reading
Learning new things
Having the opportunity to think about what we’re doing in relation to supporting our pupils to self advocate. I liked the idea of moving away from the term becoming independent.
Practical assessements alongside reasoning behind whey we should use these types of materials, and the importance of mental wellbeing. The support we can give to build the child's self confidence and self advocacy skills.
Those attending started to have their own conversations in the chat section.
Hearing experiences and suggestions of others.
Joe's enthusiasm and expertise - very easy to listen to despite difficulties showing the presentation.
Practical ideas that I can use.
Sharing of ideas
Information supplied
Joe's presentation opened up conversation around the topic and others contributed their own good practice.
Important topic and expert speaker
The wealth of tips and practical advice from the presenter
Some new places for resources mentioned. The chat and ideas in the messages
good clear presenter
Content very interesting and 'additional reading' useful for future when using/ producing questionnaires and problem solving with individual pupils about their experiences of listening in different environments.

What, if anything, could have been improved about the course?

Longer time or two sessions
Only difficulties were technical hitches. (7)
Pacing
It was unfortunate that there were technical issues, but we really just sat and were spoken at for an hour at the end of the working day. This is a shame as I think self-advocacy skills are really what our kids need. I will continue to develop this on my own.
I would change the webinar to have: a short, 5 min section on the history; introduce more interesting visuals than the black and white lists of text; actually give the audience learning tasks to do so that we can become active participants in the learning process; invite small breakout groups to discuss hypothetical examples and report back to the main group; Give people the oportunity to share their own practice and discuss, perhaps in breakout rooms and then report back.
More time to focus on the pupil profiles mentioned.
A quicker "how I got here" section. More what I do and more discussion
Sharing screen, difficult to discuss without seeing the materials

What other CPD training would you like the SSC to provide?

Anything along the same lines!
Developing listening comprehension skills in deaf learners
Ways to support pupils online. Online signed resources that are available for use with teaching.
Supporting school to further education settings transitions/contacts.
At the moment I need support for deaf children whose home language is not English. I have an increasing number of pupils that this would help.
captioning and speech to text apps.
Working with families and pre-schoolers.
Early years language development.

Technical Feedback

How would you rate the webinar technology? 3.0/5

Any comments on the technical aspects

Captioning did not work
The quality of sound was poor-very crackly.
Technical problems impacted on the presentation but was handled with professionalism.
MS Teams didn't behave itself.
Unfortunate, but we all have to accept this in the present situation. Joe handled it very well.
Difficulty with presenting PPT.
Technology issues always arise in these situations - been there myself! We are all on a learning curve but still good to have the opportunities to learn and network.
Challenges on screensharing.
There were glitches. It wasn't anyone's fault. It happens.
Unable to share and screen freezing so could not see the presenter.
