The Deafness, Cognition and Language Research Centre (DCAL) at University College London is the largest research centre in Europe focused on sign linguistics, psychology and neuroscience.

Over the past fifteen years, DCAL researchers have developed nine research-informed assessments suitable for use with the deaf population. The DCAL Portal provides access to these online assessments of sign language, speechreading and cognition for use by practitioners and researchers.

In this talk, Fiona will introduce the DCAL Portal and the range of online tests that it offers. She explained how to get started with using the Portal and give a walk-through demonstration of how to use it. This talk was recorded.

Teachers of the Deaf (ToDs), Speech Language Therapists, Researchers, and qualified professionals who would use the DCAL Portal.

Presenter

Dr Fiona Kyle is a lecturer at the Deafness, Cognition and Language Research Centre (DCAL) at University College London (UCL). She developed the Test of Child Speechreading (ToCS) which is suitable for use with deaf and hearing children and is available on the DCAL Portal. Fiona is a chartered psychologist and her research focuses on the acquisition and development of literacy, language and cognitive skills in both deaf children and hearing children. She is the director of The Literacy and Deafness Development Research Lab (The LADDER Lab).
