Contact other TODs for advice collaboration
Speak to managers about how we can support pupils remotely.
I'm trying to upskill in my use of technology to add subtitles and BSL films to existing films!
Will push for video calls with our deaf pupils even more.
Try alternative platforms to contact pupils
I think it will be necessary to ensure National Guidelines on pupil / teacher contact in "unusual" situations is clear and procedures are in place. This needs to be addressed in all authorities. Therefore for our Outreach Service work phones are a must!
Consider other ways of communicating with pupils
Liaise with SMT re communicating with HI pupils at this time.
Feeling reassured that everyone in different authorities is facing the same problems. Great way to see other TODs
It was great to hear from so many other teachers of the deaf, sometimes in this job as a peripatetic you feel very much alone and no one really understands what it is you do.
Getting the notes to read.
Hearing other Teacher of Deaf experiences.
Being able to ask questions either via video call or in the chat at the side and benefiting from others' experience.
Finding out that other Teachers of the Deaf are having difficulties too.
Realising I am not the only one who is finding work strange and challenging at the moment.
Interaction between so many teachers working in Deaf Education and hearing all the different ideas people had to connect with their pupils/families. I felt there was a good balance between BSL users and those who do not require this. initially I was concerned it might favour one aspect rather than be comprehensive.
To know others are having the same difficulties.
Topic covered and presentation enabling fairly big number of folk to listen and join in.
Hearing others' views.
I am deaf. There were no captions and people kept forgetting to turn their cameras on (even when I reminded them) so I couldn’t lipread them. This webinar was stressful and frustrating for me, especially as it involved a group of Teachers of the Deaf and was run by the Scottish Sensory Centre. I didn’t expect to have these problems. To be fair I signed up at the last minute but I wasn’t the only deaf person involved.
A greater variety of respondents.
Reminding people to switch off microphones when not speaking as they would keep moving to main screen when any noise was made.

I would definitely like this training to continue. It is so much easier to access than going to Moray House.
More on Deaf awareness, learning, teaching.
Specific technology re above answer would be great!
More technical help regarding remote teaching.
The other three topics you have sound perfect although I do suspect there will be more questions for Joe O'Donnell than there is time for and so a follow up with him would be beneficial I think.
Software ideas for adding BSL to existing videos.
How was your experience of accessing the course via Collaborate? 3.9/5
How would you rate the webinar technology? 3.9/5
It was a lot easier than I thought as I had never used it before.
The sound was very crackly.
The quality was poor. Voices and pictures were out of sync. This could have been my own WiFi.
Once I moved to chrome rather than internet explorer I gained access without difficulty.
I am not confident with technology and couldn't get the test link completed on my lap top or iPad but one of my colleagues suggested I use my phone and this worked. Thank You. I am happy to try again this week.
One of best been involved in so far - muting until invited to speak after indicating you want to cut down noise.
