Will you do anything differently as a result of this webinar?

Will discuss with our team around language / signs used in more detail.
Look at the slides as a staff to support how we currently teach metalanguage.
Speak to colleagues, we are collating sign vocabulary to use with staff old and new. Nice to know this is happening other places. It will be good if SSC take this on board and develop it nationally.
I don't work with the deaf community and I don't know how to sign but this made me far more aware of issues related to the multi-modal use of language in the classroom as an ESOL lecturer, and also gave me a far greater awareness of the complexities of BSL.
Definitely. I would like to discuss this with our team and develop our consistency of meta linguistic terms.
Consider more carefully the signs used for metalanguage in English.
Reinforcing the use of sign supported English in the mainstream setting for young deaf pupil with Arabic as first language.
I will be more confident in the using BSL.
I found this topic really interesting and I will try to learn more about it as a result of this webinar. The additional materials will be very useful for this.

What was best about the webinar?

The role of BSL in the teaching of English.
Great to see other professionals grappling with the same issues.
Just knowing that this research has been done and will hopefully be built on.
Realising that what I see everyday is trans-languaging.
For me, I just learned a lot about BSL and found it an incredibly enriching webinar. I have colleagues who do use BSL (hearing and also deaf colleagues) and now I have so many questions for them.
Really inspiring, it is great to meet up with other practitioners. I loved the term translanguage, this is definitely the way I'm working.
Presenter was engaging and interesting.
Reinforcement that gesture and local sign are okay to use.
The film clips and clear content.
The film clips helped to give the theory meaning.
The different examples.

What, if anything, could have been improved about the webinar?

Nothing.
I was pleased with the whole experience, but I am also very ignorant of BSL so the webinar was eye opening to me in a very positive way.
It was excellent, I would have enjoyed more videos if there had been time.
Research content was interesting but quite heavy for the range of participants.
Some of the slides in the powerpoint had lots of information and I did not have time to read everything.

What other CPD training would you like the SSC to provide?

Would welcome any training that would further develop my practice.
Different assistive listening devices.
I would be interested in different approaches to the use of BSL (teaching other languages).

Technical Feedback

How would you rate the webinar technology? 4.8/5

Any comments on the technical aspects

Technicals worked well. Microsoft Teams would be easier for me as I am not allowed to use Zoom on work laptop. I can use my own iPad so can work around this. Use of remote technology has enabled me in Cornwall to access a wealth of training. Previously, attending a course 'up country' was expensive and time consuming.
Would prefer not to use Zoom as I am not allowed it on my work laptop. I had to install it on my phone which I'm not keen to do and after the webinar delete it from my phone.
I didn't get sent the link to the webinar but thankfully a colleague had joined so was able to forward me the details otherwise I would have missed this really interesting session. Thank you so much for putting on these training sessions.
