Practical solutions to support CYP with complex needs.
To hear from a Habilitation Specialist about their experience and being able to observe and reflect and change the plans.
The speaker was really informative.
I liked the breakdown of the process.
Interesting and relevant to our role.
The break down on how to assess and what the different areas were.
It was all relevant.
Case study, working through a child is so much better way of learning.
All very interesting. Good to have a structured approach to work to when initially assessing. Fraser sounds adorable.
Using a case study really gave meaning to the assessment process.
Reminded me that it can take more time than you think to really observe a CYPVI with complex needs and how subtle any changes and progression can be, and how absolutely important this is. It's easy to feel rushed with time restraints so was great to hear this.
I really like how Nancy used the case study as a frame of reference throughout. She did not try to fit too much in but this single case study was helpful to give some real life context.
The case study was incredibly useful great having the information provided in this format.
Really great practical advice, found case study useful and interesting too.
Perhaps a range of different case studies?
Some examples of time frames from observation to implementing and changing strategies and involving other professionals and family / carers opinions.
Maybe a video of the progress
Potentially 2 different case studies and how the assessment process could vary.
It gave a good general overview. Do you have a standard report checklist you could share?
Always nice to see pictures or video of working with child, however understand that this is not always available.
If permissions were in place, a video of part of a session or photo of the initial observation sessions would have been great.
Included everything I wanted to hear regarding assessing CYPVI with complex needs.
I can't think of anything at this point as I need time (sound familiar?!!! :-) to digest and reflect on what I have learned. I will raise anything in the future if it occurs to me.
I felt having plenty of time at the end for discussion was also really helpful, it can take time for people to think about what they want to ask or comment on so having time for those conversations to evolve is most useful.
All very thorough. Looking forward to the next one.

A similar presentation with CYP with CVI
I'm looking forward to the next two sessions in this series. All elements of Hab specific work with case studies and possible video examples - its hard to get really hab specific training. On-line training is great at the moment as my employer will not allow us to attend any in-person training due to cuts in funding.
Perhaps how hab specialists can support the following aspects for children with complex needs: Self-advocacy/self-agency; Social and self determination. I know it may look very different but I think it is so, so important.
This was a fantastic event and I look forward to what you have in store for Hab specialists in the future! I hope it will be an area of growth. Thank you SSC and Nancy (And Sheila for the smooth running)!
