A one day online training course, split over two afternoons, looked at children and teenagers with hearing loss through the lens of:

• Social thinking: becoming familiar with how this programme is used in therapy sessions and with groups of children.
• Making and keeping friends: what skills do children need and what gaps do children with hearing loss have?
• Developing social capital: why this is vital for engaging in group work.
• Developing emotional literacy and self compassion skills to promote well being.
• Sharing resources from leaders in the field such as Brene Brown and Professor Steve Peters.

Target Audience

Teachers of deaf children, Class teachers, SENCOs and speech & language therapists.

Presenter

Diana Harbor, HearTogether

Diana is dual trained as a Speech and Language Therapist and Audiologist and over the years has worked in both fields. Diana began as an audiologist and research associate in 1999, working for the MRC Institute of Hearing Research. In 2001 she joined the Nottingham Paediatric Cochlear Implant Programme (now NAIP) as a specialist speech and language therapist. In 2006 Diana joined the growing team at The Ear Foundation developing the Education programme, delivering courses and creating education resources. Diana helped co-lead activities and summer residentials with teenagers with hearing loss. More recently she has been practising educational audiology and works as a consultant SALT for Leicester City SEND service. Diana also runs her independent SALT practice, Khuluma and is a project manager at Hear Together.
