Mike Loshak and Sheila Robson will join us for a talk and demonstration on a Scandinavian approach to Music Therapy and its applications in the classroom.
Mike was awarded Teacher of the Year in Sweden in 2024 and both he and Sheila have a vast experience of working with young people with speech, language and communication needs. They share a passion for the inclusivity of Music and bring energy to every performance.
Over the past twelve years Mike and Sheila have worked together in Sweden and in Scotland to develop unique programs of music making activities accessible to all, with the goal of supporting holistic development at the cognitive, physical and emotional levels. They have developed and delivered unique programs of activities for children who typically experience barriers to music making activities.

Mike Loshak and Sheila Robson (Music educators)
Sheila has been a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, university lecturer and clinical researcher with a specialist focus on exceptional/atypical childhood development for over 30 years. Sheila has used neurological music therapy theory and intensive interaction techniques to support habilitation and rehabilitation of communication in children who experience barriers to expression and communication for much of her career. Sheila is a singer and enjoys directing young people in musical theatre/performances.
Mike is an award winning Music Teacher, Lecturer and Functional Music Therapist with over 30 years experience of using both innovative and evidence based techniques to reach children who experience barriers to development and well-being. He has spent 30 years developing music-making activities for children living in areas of deprivation, for children who are recovering from trauma and have no common language with which to express themselves (asylum seekers) and for children accessing Enhanced Provisions and experiencing significant sensory, cognitive and physical barriers to music making. Mike is passionate about the incredible potential music making has to unlock children's capacity for self expression and connection: mind, body and soul. For the past 12 years Mike is a multi instrumentalist and musical director for children's theatre and school performances.
