Webinar 2: What's the Complexity? Matt Tietjen

Presented on Tuesday, 5th May 2020

Content

Before the webinar participants watched a video on the "What's the Complexity? Framework" featuring Matt Tietjen in conversation with Prof John Ravenscroft. The framework was created by Matt, who interested in the impact of CVI on children's education. This video on CVI is one of a series. They can be viewed independently of one another.

During the webinar participants discussed their experiences with children with CVI and how they could use ideas raised in the video. Matt's framework encourages staff working with children who have or are suspected of having cerebral visual impairment to consider the complexity of a task and the added complexity when the environment is not optimal, eg when there is visual clutter, noise, and interruptions.

Some discussion points

"The framework offers validity to what we have been saying to teachers."

"We like how structured the framework is to identify when things are okay or not okay!"

"Universal Design for Learning! Is it challenging behaviour or is it the environment? QTVIs can be agents of change for all children."

"Remember to think about the task too, simplify the task as well as the environment if that doesn’t seem to work."
