Dr Adam Schembri is a reader in linguistics, focusing on sign languages. This event focused on the linguistics of sign languages and how deaf children acquire sign languages. For professionals working with deaf signing pupils, assessing progress can be difficult. The use of the BSL Receptive test to assess and plan progression was discussed.

Dr Schembri also initiated and continues to work with the BSL Corpus project. This resource provides a record of the changing face of BSL. Part of this session looked at how valuable this resource is, but also how it can used for supporting teachers and pupils
